HOYAS

The East Bay H.O.Y.A.S. (Helping Our Youth Achieve Success) is an auxiliary program offering of the Berkeley Boosters PAL.  We work closely with long time coach and 2001 Bay Area High School Coach of the Year David Manson (former Executive Director of the Berkeley Boosters PAL) to provide a quality youth sports program to at-risk youth.

The HOYAS are based on providing the same positive life skills that all Berkeley Boosters PAL programs offer: teamwork, goal setting, overcoming obstacles and challenges, communication, leadership, and strong work ethic.

In order to participate on the HOYAS, student athletes are required to maintain a minimum 2.0 Grade Point Average. Coaches conduct regular grade checks and often do school site visits to maintain relationships with the players’ teachers and keep informed on student progress.

The primary focus of the HOYAS is individual player development in a strong team environment.  We spend much of our time focused on developing solid basketball fundamentals, high level conditioning, individual and team offensive and defensive principles, and a competitive spirit grounded in sportsmanship.

The HOYAS offer both boys and girls teams, and compete in competitive local and national tournaments. All HOYAS teams also belong to the Amateur Athletic Union, with the ultimate goal that they will raise enough funds and compete well enough locally to be able to compete in the yearly AAU National Youth Basketball Championship tournament in Las Vegas, NV.
